Mathematical Monday

Solve the following poem
As I was going to St. Ives
As I was going to St. Ives I met a man with seven wives,
Each wife had seven sacks, each sack had seven cats,
Each cat had seven kits: kits, cats, sacks and wives,
How many were going to St. Ives?
Now solve for kits, cats, sacs, and wives?

Talking Tuesday

Did you know it is recommended that students memorize 100 poems to improve reading and writing skills? Today’s activity is to memorize and dramatically perform this Mother Goose Poem. (Note adjust the amount of memorization based upon ability ie., 1. Memorize the ONE repeating line. 2. Memorize one stanza. 3. Memorize the entire poem)

The Three Little Kittens poem

Writing Wednesday

On Telling Tuesday we began memorizing the poem “Three Little Kittens, Who Lost Their Mittens”

Today write about the three kittens.

Start at Level I and work to your highest skill set:(Side note if you have multiple levels of students at home, complete Levels I & II as a group. The oral language and modeling will help the Level I & II students.)

Level I. Write down words to describe the kittens. Choose 2-5 words write one sentence.

Level II. Write 3-5 sentences about the kittens using words from your word list.

Level III. Write 1- 5 paragraphs about the kittens. Use as many words from your Level I brainstorming list.

Level IV. Write a new adventure involving the kittens with their mittens. (Note: Levels I-III can orally díctate/record a story)

Thrilling Science Thursday

Continuing our study of the three kittens. Identify the species for each cat in the picture. Create a poster board with a picture of one species. Add 5-10 facts the cat.
